Now that the Autumn bounty is at its fullest, and we are hunkering down for the chilly holiday season, it’s time to get ready for everyone’s favorite holiday that’s all about eating (and eating and eating) – Thanksgiving! There is so much to be thankful for in Oregon, with all of the lovely farm-to-table dining that we can take advantage of throughout the year. Here are some fine Portland dining establishments featured in The Where To Eat Guide who are willing to take all of the hard work out of your hands, and present a feast that is truly memorable, so that you can focus on what’s most important –spending time with the important people in your life. Pass the pie!

Huber’s Café: Huber’s Café – Portland’s oldest restaurant, established in 1879 – offers a scrumptious Turkey Dinner 365 days a year, so if you are looking for the real deal on Thanksgiving Day, this should be your first stop. The Roast Young Tom Turkey comes with all of the trimmings, like sage dressing, fresh mashed potatoes or baked yams, traditional gravy or mushroom gravy and cranberry sauce. You can also savor Baked Sugar-Glazed Ham with all the sides, or a plateful of Half and Half! Other selections include Turkey Pot Pie, Five Spice Pork Tenderloin, Fresh Filet of Wild Salmon, Filet Mignon or Beef Stroganoff. After dinner there is house made Pumpkin Pie, Baked Bread Custard Pudding and Apple Blackberry Cobbler. Don’t forget the flaming Spanish Coffee!

Meriwether’s: An unforgettable Thanksgiving experience can be yours at Meriwether’s, complete with menu items from their nearby Skyline farm. The three-course Prix Fixe menu will be available from 2:00 to 7:15 pm. Dinner is $55.00 per adult and $28.00 for children from 2 – 10. Advance reservations with a credit card are required (cancellations must be made by 1:00 pm on November 22nd). First course choices include Autumn Farm Salad, Roasted Beet Salad and Skyline Farm Pumpkin Soup. Main courses are SuDan Farm Natural Roast Turkey, Roasted Petrale Sole and Chestnut Braised Pork Osso Buco. Dessert options are the Skyline Farm Pumpkin Profiterole with cranberry compote, caramel sauce and pumpkin seed brittle, Apple Cider Sorbet with black pepper shortbread or the Chocolate Roulade with cinnamon cream, dark chocolate rosette and huckleberry sauce. Raven and Rose: Raven and Rose will welcome parties of one to 24 diners for family-style service on Thanksgiving day from 1:00 to 7:00 pm. Families with children can be seated in the main dining room; guests who are 21+ can head into the Rookery Bar. Is football a part of your Thanksgiving Day tradition? The TVs will be on upstairs!  Start the feast with a Cheese Ball with house made Crackers and Salted Nuts, then select a soup (Roasted Kuri Squash or French Onion) or salad (Farm Greens or Endive). Ready for the main event? Choose from the following: Turkey Breast and Leg Confit Ballotine, wild-caught Oregon Salmon Wellington, or Swede Fondant (root vegetable noodles, roasted squash, avocado, herb butter and black garlic). Pass those sides ‘round: Brussels Sprouts with blue cheese and bacon, Sweet and Savory Yams and Green Bean Casserole. Dessert will be Heirloom Pumpkin Cheesecake, Chocolate and Almond Roulade or Butterscotch pudding. Family style dinner is $65 for adults, $25 for children who are 12 and under. Jake’s Grill: Jake’s Grill, a beloved Portland mainstay, brings the classic American Grill dining experience to Portland, serving the finest meats and seafood in the historic Sentinel hotel. On Thanksgiving, Jake’s will be offering a Traditional Thanksgiving Buffet from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm ($42.99 per adult; $14.99 per child). The Roasted Turkey Dinner will be complete with Butternut Squash Bisque or Walnut Mixed Greens, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Cornbread Stuffing, Seasonal Vegetables, Apple Squash Casserole and Cranberry Sauce. Portland Spirit: What could be better than cruising along the Willamette River and enjoying a Thanksgiving Day buffet? The 2 ½ hour adventure will include a holiday buffet with dessert, hot tea and coffee, as well as live piano entertainment ($66.00 for adults; $29.00 for children ages 4 – 12). Portland Prime: Portland Prime, one of PDX’s finest steak and seafood establishments, will offer a traditional Prix Fixe Thanksgiving Dinner from 11:30 am - 9:00 pm ($39.00). Start with a House Salad or Butternut Squash Soup, then tuck into hand carved Fresh Roasted Turkey with Apple Sausage Sage Dressing, Mashed Potatoes, Candied Yams, sautéed Green Beans, Turkey Gravy and Cranberry Sauce. Finish your feast with house made Pumpkin pie or Chocolate Torte. Alternatively, enjoy their signature Slow Roasted Prime Beef, Grilled Salmon with raspberry tarragon beurre blanc or Seafood Imperial, accompanied by daily potatoes and seared greens. Brix Tavern: Brix Tavern, one of the coziest restaurants in Portland, will be serving a four-course Thanksgiving Dinner from 1:00 – 8:00 pm. Adult entrées start at $26.95 per person; Kids meals are $8.95. Entrée price includes a starter platter, choice of soup or salad, all sides and a choice of dessert (advance reservations with a credit card are required).

Sit down to a Starter Platter served family-style, laden with pickled fall vegetables, warm roasted brie with apple hazelnut relish, deviled eggs, smoked salmon mousse, fennel crackers and soft baguette. Then, enjoy Butternut Squash Soup with maple cream, Fall Harvest Salad or Roasted Beet, Arugula and Chevre Salad. For the main course, choose from Herb Roasted Local Tom Turkey, Rotisserie Roasted Smoked Prime Rib of Beef, Grilled Salmon Filet or Fall Vegetable Wellington. Pass around some family-style sides like Garlic and Basil Mashed Yukon Potatoes, Maple Glazed Sweet Yams, Fuji Apple Sage Sausage Stuffing, Buttered Green Beans and Glazed Carrots with Roasted Almonds and Traditional House Made Cranberry Sauce. Swank & Swine: Swank Restaurant in downtown Portland’s lovely Paramount Hotel will serve a four-course Thanksgiving meal from 12:00 – 8:00 pm, with entrée prices from $34.95 - $54.95 per person, which will include appetizers, a choice of soup or salad, a choice of main course with sides and a choice of dessert (Reservations required with credit card). Ask about special menu pricing for the Slow-Roasted Oregon Turkey to be served up for kids from 3 – 10 years old; children under 3 years old eat free!

Thanksgiving Day appetizers will include Truffle Deviled Eggs, House Smoked Salmon, Chicken Liver Mousse, Pickled Vegetables and House Crackers. Once your appetite has been whetted, choose from Butternut Squash Soup with maple Chantilly, Beet Salad or Baby Gem Lettuce Salad. For your main course, you can enjoy Slow Roasted Oregon Turkey, River Trolled Steelhead, Painted Hills Petit Filet, Painted Hills Ribeye or Sweet Potato and Wild Mushroom Wellington. Traditional sides to accompany the entrées will be Yukon Gold Potato Purée, Apple Sausage Dressing, Sautéed Green Beans, Candied Yams (with caramel and pecans!) and Cranberry Sauce. There’s always room for dessert, right? How about Pecan Pie with pumpkin ice cream and crème fraîche, Viridian Farms Pumpkin Pie with vanilla ice cream and cinnamon oat streusel or Apple Tarte Tartin with caramel ice cream and almond crisp.

Urban Fondue: If you would prefer a non-traditional, but nonetheless spectacular, Thanksgiving Day dining experience, you can check out The Fondue Experience at Urban Fondue, a three-course meal with one cheese fondue and one dessert fondue (perfect for two!) with one entrée selection per person. A special holiday price of $26.95 for each diner is being offered. Dip into the Smoked Local Farmhouse Cheddar, Tillamook White Cheddar and Caraway or Brie and Gorgonzola Fondue. If you are feeling extra adventurous with the dipping, add Grilled Asparagus Spears, French Garlic Sausage, Sautéed Button Mushrooms or apples, pears and ruby grapes.

Then, each diner can select an entrée like Steak and Lobster or East Meets West (Carlton pork, local chicken breast, east coast scallops and tiger prawns) to be cooked in your choice of broth (fragrant cauldrons of chicken, beef, spicy Firepot or Tomato Fennel broth!). Add some dipping sauces like Lime Chili, Meyer Lemon Hollandaise, Smoked Tomato Aioli or Blackberry Ketchup for extra zip. Ask about suggested wines to accompany the entrées.

Ready to dive into dessert? Receive another fondue pot with sweet creations like Bittersweet Chocolate Hazelnut, Bananas Foster or Caramel Cognac Fudge! Turkey who? Served Thanksgiving Day from 1:00 - 10:00 pm (advance reservations required with a credit card).

Fogo De Chão: Another fabulous non-traditional Thanksgiving day feast idea is the overwhelmingly succulent Churrasco Experience at Brazilian grill Fogo De Chão. Gauchos will bring you long swords of sizzling steak, chicken, lamb and pork. You can also enjoy the immense salad bar and shareable sides like Fried Polenta, Caramelized Bananas and Pão de Queijo (Brazilian cheesy bread – gluten free!). On Thanksgiving Day, Fogo De Chão will add Roasted Turkey Breast with au jus, Homemade Cranberry Relish, Brazilian Sausage and Apple Dressing and Sweet Potato Casserole. Dinner service will be extended to 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, with dinner prices for the full Churrasco Experience ($49.95) applying all day.
