StarChefs Announces 2018 Portland Rising Stars Award Winners!

StarChefs, the restaurant industry magazine, announces its 2018 class of Portland Rising Stars. The quarterly awards honor up-and-coming chefs and hospitality professionals, who represent the vanguard of the contemporary American dining scene. This year, the StarChefs editorial team met with more than 125 chefs, pastry chefs, bartenders, sommeliers, and artisans in Portland.

The 2018 class of Portland Rising Stars will be celebrated at an awards ceremony and walk-around tasting next month at Castaway. The event is ticketed and open to the public, and will be emceed by Chef Peter Cho and Gary Okazaki, aka “Gary The Foodie.”

Since 2003, StarChefs has held awards in 22 different cities and regions across the country, and will celebrate this 61st class of Rising Stars in Portland. The most recent Portland Rising Stars Awards were held in 2011.

"It's great to be back in Portland after seven years! The pop-up city remains a hotbed of industry experimentation and fantastically fertile ground for creative chefs and entrepreneurs to build their brands," says Antoinette Bruno, Editor-in-Chief and CEO of StarChefs.

"Since July of last year, we’ve eaten in restaurants built inside a home, an apartment, and a wine shop. We visited pop-ups inside pop-ups. We were awed by tasting menus, demolished a platter of pork sliders, and grabbed sandwiches from an all-torta restaurant. We’ve seen a dining room with a DJ booth and breweries with children’s play areas. Portland continues to write its own story," says Sean Kenniff, Associate Editor of StarChefs.
