Portland is a foodie city, and most of the city's identity is the food carts! Food carts are perfect for busy people and perfect for this pandemic since they are built for takeaway and provide social distancing between the staff and diners. Check out this food cart guide Juliana Soles, also known as Food Femme PDX, shared with us from burgers to drinks!
Yes, Please, Smash Burger
Hawthorne Headquarters - Tai started this colorful cart all on the idea of community. Located in the heart of the city, this Hawthorne staple feeds paying customers great food and gives to those in need, meaning any are welcome to join in on the fun. This is the spot whether you're in the mood for a regular smash burger or even a breakfast burger. The beef is locally sourced and grass-fed, the house-made yes sauce, the excellent pickle adds a healthy crunch, and the ONLY tallow fries in the city. So you may be wondering why this smash burger over another? The answer is simple… IT'S MADE WITH LOVE!!!
Gnarlys
Located at Core PDX on 82nd, this is an option for all! (Vegan) burgers and fries on display in more ways than one. Starting with 2 Hermanos bakery buns, these beyond burgers are placed atop a sturdy vessel and stacked high with endless topping options. From crispy onions, lettuce, and vegan cheese, to homemade ranch and bbq sauce. These burgers will fill you up whether you like meat or not. Add on a brew from The Breaksider for the full CORE effect.
Little Bloom Lao & Thai Cuisine
Located in Mississippi is a women-owned and widely underrated cart. Dom makes sure every dish here is bursting with flavor and vibrant, just like her personality. They offer everything from sticky mango rice to (Sai Oua Luk Seen) Lao-style meatballs. My personal favorites are crab fried rice and Pad Kee Mao because who doesn't love drunken noodles and crab!? So if you are looking for something filling and good for the soul, this is the spot!
Hinterland Bar and Carts - Mt. Tabor
Opening in January of 2022, this up-and-coming pod is offering bites & vibes. I have loved Happy Valley Station, but this is an excellent midpoint for those growing tired of the same old. This is a family-friendly spot with TV and drinks galore featuring Burger Stevens, Third Culture Kitchen, La Taquiza Vegana, and Matt's BBQ Tacos! I enjoyed an arugula salad and a buffalo chicken sandwich that was doused perfectly at TCK. Although quaint, this is a great spot to grab a quick drink with family or friends.
