Fat Tuesday is just under a month away which means it's time to pre-order pączki from Bowery Bagels! The delicious jelly doughnut-like pastries will have some traditional and unique special flavors, including Vanilla Cream, Chocolate Cream, Apple and Prune. Also, this year all flavors are available as vegan! Bowery Bagels pączki will only be available on Tuesday, February 9th while supplies last at their downtown Portland shop. A little about this tasty tradition - Pączki were popularized in Polish communities where mass quantities would be prepared and served at Fat Tuesday parties in order to use all the lard, sugar, and eggs in the house, which could not be consumed during the 40-day Christian Lenten fasting season. These tasty bites of deep-fried rich dough and sweet filling have now become a hotly anticipated annual treat in Portland as well, thanks to Bowery Bagels. Even for those not celebrating Lent, pączki is perfect for doughnut-obsessed Portlanders.
