When wintertime hits, comfort food goes to the top of my list! Things like mac ‘n cheese, lasagna, and hearty soups just hit the spot in the cold, wet Seattle weather. But comfort food can have a health benefit and not just carb-crazy! Fish and other seafood are high in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids, which are really important nutrients. Here are some great spots to enjoy comfort seafood in Seattle.

Art Marble 21 | 731 Westlake Ave N | 206-223-0300

There’s lots of fun and games for the whole family to enjoy at Art Marble 21, and when you sit down to eat, I recommend their delicious San Cho Cho Stew (also called Bayou Gumbo). It’s a great dish for chilly, rainy Seattle winter days, and is rich with scallops, clams, prawns, and red snapper in a spicy creole broth, served with saffron-infused rice.

Duke's Chowder House | Multiple Locations

If you’re looking for bar-and-grill style dining in an approachable, family-friendly environment, you’ll certainly find it at Duke’s Chowder House. Their dishes are great year-round, but I find their entrees to be particularly perfect for my appetite during the winter. You simply cannot skip their award-winning chowders - there are five to choose from, and if you can’t pick, go with the sampler option! Gluten-free diners will appreciate that the chowders are all gluten free, and if you decide to go with Duke’s Favorite Pasta with Wild Alaska Salmon, you can enjoy the gluten-free rigatoni from Manini's.

Highliner Public House | 3909 18th Ave W | 206-216-1254

The Highliner Public House specializes in comfort seafood, and their seafood ‘n chips selection is a must-try! Fish, fries, and coleslaw on the side just hits the spot. The Coho Salmon & Chips is amazing and best enjoyed ‘blackened’ instead of fried. Get all of that amazing fresh salmon flavor with the toasty char marks.

McCormick & Schmick's Harborside | 1200 Westlake Avenue N | 206-270-9052

Splurge a little and enjoy the tastiness of Dungeness crab at McCormick & Schmick’s. Their Steamed whole crab is served with roasted potatoes, fresh veggies, lemon and drawn butter for dipping. It’s totally worth the extra spend, especially for a special occasion with all of that family in town for the holidays!
