Where To Grab a Bite at the Ballard Farmer’s Market

Although many of Seattle’s farmers markets are seasonal for the late spring, summer, and early fall, a few are open year-round for our enjoyment of local produce and goods. One of those is the Ballard market, which is open Sundays from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. While you’re shopping seasonal produce and foods from local purveyors and farms, you can treat yourself to some pretty tasty bites in and around the market…

Los Chilangos | Food Truck

First up, Taqueria Los Chilangos makes an appearance at the Ballard Farmers Market pretty much every Sunday! You can order street tacos (choose from pollo, carne asada, al pastor or carnitas), tortas, quesadillas, or burritos to enjoy street side as you wander the market’s stalls.

Shelter Lounge | 4910 Leary Ave NW | 206-829-8568

From crazy snacks like the PB & J Jalapeno poppers, to special twists on classic sandwiches, burgers, and salads, Shelter Lounge is a great spot to go for after- or mid-market dining. Their wonton tacos are to-die-for, and I love their amazing Mac ‘n Cheese! Also, happy hour is all day on Sunday, with snacks from $5-7.

Skillet Diner | 2034 NW 56th St | 206-922-7981

An extension of the diner that took everyone’s breath away when it opened on Capitol Hill in 2011, Skillet Diner in Ballard is a unique, fun place to grab a bite when you visit the Ballard Farmers Market. Dig in to Skillet classics and all of your favorites, from the maple braised pork belly and waffle, to their legendary kale caesar salad.

The Gerald | 5210 Ballard Ave NW | 206-432-9280

Step away from the market on Ballard Avenue and stop in at The Gerald for a happy hour snack on market day! Happy hour is from 4 - 6 p.m., and all appetizers are just $5! Enjoy favorites like The Gerald’s renowned poutine, as well as tasty bites such as the fried cheese curds or fried brussels sprouts, devils on horseback, truffle popcorn or market chips. Yum!

The Other Coast Cafe | 5315 Ballard Ave NW | 206-789-0936

Where do you go for a sandwich with serious flavor and minimal hassle? The Other Coast Cafe, of course! Their amazing deli sandwiches are crave-busting and delicious, whether hot or cold! My personal favorites include the Electric Wizard (with apple wood smoked ham, smoked mozzarella, tomato, onion and balsamic mayo) and The Bullet (bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, oil and vinegar). The cafe also has some pretty yummy salads.
