La Ruta PDX a Masterful Success!

Lft to Rt: (Chefs) Jordia Parra, Juanjo Canals, John Gorham, Manuel Alonso, Mikel De Luis, David Ramos

There is no doubt that John and Renee Gorham wear success well. All the La Ruta dinners and both inaugural events on Saturday and Sunday were well attended or sold out! The Toro team brought the culture of Spain right to the heart of Bridgetown with International and local celebrity chefs, winemakers, dancers, music and cultural showcases. I think my favorite event was with known radio voice Luke Burbank from Live Wire hosted a live chef panel during the “Taste of Spain” featuring Spanish chefs along with Kelly Cox from PBS Food’s Original Fare.

Chef panel: Sunday at the Taste of Spain

On Sunday’s “Taste of Spain” there were bites from 19 local and Spanish chefs including delicious Paella made right in Director’s Park!

Over the weekend we sampled cuisine from Fifty Licks, Alma Chocolate, Ox, Twisted Filipino, Chop, Toro Bravo, Kachka, Biwa, Olympic Provisions, Pollo Bravo, Alexis and many more.

Fifty Licks

While many food events have a tendency to get overwhelmingly crowded with attendance and filler, La Ruta PDX felt curated with a limited ticket base and high quality vendors that gave a taste of sophistication. I expect that this level of quality and control will continue for years to come, as a closing email from the Toro team read, “See you next year!”
