Lazy Sunday: Your Fool Proof Guide to the Big Game

February 1st marks this year’s biggest event in American football, Super Bowl Sunday. This is a country that thrives on tradition and since America’s greatest traditions are football, overeating, and lazy Sundays, I took the liberty of putting all three together to create your entire Super Bowl Sunday. All you have to do is eat, drink, and watch the Hail Mary’s.

The key to enjoying the game is simplicity. You won’t want to be running around all day in preparation for the game; after three trips to the store, you’ll realize you forgot the dip and the whole day will be ruined. Instead, I suggest you only make one trip, to Henry’s Tavern: American Bar & Grill. Located at the edge of the Pearl District, Henry’s offers over a hundred beers on tap as well as fresh, local ingredients on their palate-pleasing menu. They will be showing the game with full sound in the bar area (21+) and giving away prizes every quarter!

Now, the game kicks off at 3:30pm, just when your stomach will be reminding you what this day is all about: the food. No worries there, Henry’s has got you covered. My recommendation is to order a few appetizers for the table, as to satisfy every last one of your taste buds.

A few suggestions:

As far as I’m concerned, Henry’s Tavern could change its name to Henry’s Spinach & Artichoke Dip and all would be right in the world. Creamy, zesty, and far from frozen, this dip paired well with the Raspberry Margarita I sipped on in between bites.

Not big on veggies? No problem, order the Hand-Seasoned Waffle Fries topped with Gorgonzola crumbles. These bad boys will be gone before the coin toss. Wash down the seasoned Gorgonzola sauce with one of Henry’s Moscow Mules for a tantalizing flavor combination.

Of course, it wouldn’t be game day without wings. Henry’s Classic Spicy Buffalo Wings are the ultimate Super Bowl appetizer. Spicy enough to keep you reaching for your refreshing Classic Mojito, you’ll be wondering what’s hotter, the wings or Seahawks’ quarter back Russell Wilson.

Food, drinks, prizes and more, Henry’s Tavern has everything you need to enjoy a successful Super Bowl Sunday. Can’t make it to the Pearl District? Kell’s Brew Pub on NW 21st will be showing the game on a sizeable projection screen and Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery in Downtown Portland will be showing the game in the bar as well as holding a Seahawks jersey giveaway at half time, offering drink specials and a beer & nacho combo for $6.95. Not to mention the 50” Smart TV giveaway at the end of the game.

Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a last minute bandwagoner (guilty as charged), Henry’s Tavern: American Bar & Grill is sure to serve up a memorable Super Bowl Sunday.
