It’s a new year, and lots of people are excited about 2018 as a chance to move past the struggles and frustration in 2017 in their own way. For many, that means a fresh, new lifestyle with a healthier diet and exercise regimen. But we all still want to eat out and enjoy something cooked by someone else. These Seattle spots have some pretty delicious dishes that won’t set you back on your New Year’s resolutions for healthier eating…

Bai Tong Thai Street Cafe | 1121 E Pike Street | 206-787-8448

Light, flavorful and veggie-rich, the Som Tum (Papaya Salad) at Bai Tong Thai is an exemplary street food dish that’s delicious as well as good for you. It’s made with green papaya, tomatoes, green beans and dried shrimps in a spicy fresh lime dressing and topped with ground peanuts.

Elemental Pizza | 2634 NE University Village Street | 206-524-4930

Start by snacking on some delicious fire-roasted broccolini or cauliflower - the cauliflower is a healthier alternative to finger-food favorites like French fries. Then order one of Elemental’s amazing pizzas, which are baked in a wood-fired oven until they’re piping hot. The Green Goddess is a favorite, topped with pesto cream, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, feta, shredded mozzarella, and sprinkled with herbs de Provence. And remember, Elemental Pizza can make any of their pizzas gluten free for those going carb-less in the new year!

Japonessa | 1400 1st Avenue | 206-971-7979

Packed with Omega 3’s and antioxidants, fresh fish is great for your health and should really be part of your weekly diet. Japonessa is an excellent spot to find sushi Downtown, especially at lunchtime, when they offer great specials on rolls. The crab tower is amazing, packed with different types of crab between layers of avocado salsa on a yuzu soy base and topped with cilantro aioli.

Petra Mediterranean Bistro |  2501 4th Avenue | 206-728-5389

Savor the flavors of Jordan, Turkey and the Eastern Mediterranean at Petra Bistro in Belltown. Their menu is almost entirely gluten-free, and offers a unique variety of dishes from Baba Ghanouje and Tabouli, to Ouzi and Shawarma. The salads are delicious and generous, and the Petra Chicken Salad is a carb-less way to enjoy the house’s beloved garlic lemon chicken on a bed of tossed crisp greens mixed with veggies and topped with feta and house garlic sauce.
