As a barbecue lover, pulled pork sandwiches are one of my favorite things. However, other sandwiches can hit the spot when I’m looking for something a little different. Today, I want to highlight some of the fantastic spots around town with must-try sando’s...

Delicatus | 103 1st Ave South | 206-623-3780

You simply cannot go wrong with a sandwich from Delicatus. Locally-sourced, high-quality ingredients are piled high on every sandwich, from the classic deli favorites to signature Northwest-inspired Delicatus creations. I highly recommend The Mudd Honey, from their list of ‘Progressives’ - roast beef and smoked turkey from local Bavarian Meats, plus bacon, white Irish cheddar, horseradish aioli & BBQ sauce on an Italian roll.

Doc's Marina Grill | 403 Madison Ave South | 206-842-8339

When you need to get away from the city, Bainbridge Island is just a short 25-minute (or so) ferry ride away. It’s also the home of the original Doc’s Marina Grill, where you’ll find pretty much the best bar and grill food and drinks around. I love their Blackened Wild Salmon sandwich, with flavorful and fresh salmon topped with a savory tomato chutney, lettuce, tomato and mayo on a grilled focaccia bun.

Harried & Hungry | 1415 3rd Ave | 206-264-7900

Harried & Hungry excels at catering, and their deli is another great success. The ingredients on their sandwiches always taste so fresh and perfectly paired - whether it’s a classic Club or unique creation like The Don Corleone. They also make specialty sandwiches for each season, which are a must!

Scratch Deli | 1718 12th Ave | 206-257-4554

Pretty much everything on the menu at Scratch Deli is… you guessed it! Made from scratch. This leads to some pretty excellent sandwiches! The Cuban (smoked pulled pork, pickles, mustard, Mama Lil’s and aioli) is amazing, for one. And for gluten-free foodies out there, you can get any of Scratch Deli’s masterful sando’s on a gluten-free bun from Manini’s, a local gluten-free purveyor.

Shelter Lounge | 4910 Leary Ave NW | 206-829-8568

It’s really hard for me to choose between the Cubano de Abrigo and the Shelter Signature sandwiches at Shelter Lounge in Ballard. The first has slow-roasted pork with ham, pickles, Swiss and mustard - yum! The Shelter Signature is stacked with slow-cooked pork, caramelized onions, provolone, jalapeños, cilantro, and chipotle aioli. What would you pick? You really can’t go wrong with either.

Uneeda Burger | 4302 Fremont Ave N | 205-547-2600

While they’re known and named for their burger-frenzy, Uneeda Burger is an excellent spot to grab a sandwich, too. They make a few great classics such as Grilled Cheese, Grilled BLT, and Smokey Carolina Pulled Pork in addition to their signature Up-State (NY) and Chipotle Chicken Sandwich. What’s more, Uneeda Burger does seasonal specials like the Briezey Leaves Bacon: melted brie, oven roasted apples, fried sage, and browned butter on toasty Macrina sourdough.
