Vegetarian in Seattle? Try These Veggie Burgers

As Seattle continues to climb the ranks toward food mecca status, it would be remiss not to include above-average vegetarian options. While the standard veggie burger often leaves much to be desired (yes, meatless diners deserve more than a half-thawed patty resembling rehydrated cardboard), these five Seattle locations are ahead of the game.

Blue Moon Burgers | Multiple locations

Blue Moon offers its fair share of signature burgers built for busting cravings, but the Seattle joint is also ideal for diners who like to customize their own creations. For those custom crusaders who also happen to be vegetarian, you can build your own burger by selecting one of two meatless (and gluten-free!) protein options: a spicy black bean or classic veggie patty. Then choose your bun (brioche, gluten-free, Texas toast, or ciabatta), cheese (American, bleu, cheddar, pepper jack, or swiss), sauce, and add-ons (standouts include grilled onions, fried egg, jalapenos, guacamole, and… peanut butter?) and chow down! Available at any of Blue Moon’s four Seattle locations in South Lake Union, Fremont, Capitol Hill, or Alki Beach.

Duke's Chowder House | Multiple locations

The Seattle seafood powerhouse does its vegetarian friends justice with the from-scratch “Farm to Table” Veggie Burger. Each patty is housemade using black beans and fresh veggies, topped with chipotle aioli and Jarlsberg cheese, and sandwiched inside a local Essential Baking Co. bun. The veggie burger is served with sweet potato fries for good measure, and makes for a satisfying meat-free meal at lunch or dinner.

The Pike Pub at Pike Brewing Company | 1415 1st Ave | 206-622-6044

Pike Brewing Company’s multi-level downtown location houses a restaurant serving up a robust pub grub menu, complete with plenty of mandatory burger and sandwich options. The Indochine Veggie Burger, which is inspired by a Vietnamese Bánh mì, is far from your run-of-the-mill mystery patty. It features a toasted Grand Central Bakery bun topped with a housemade barley veggie patty, pickled veggies, cilantro, jalapenos, and spicy vegan mayonnaise. Enjoy yours with a side of crispy fries and an equally crisp cold beer.

Teddy's Bigger Burgers | 17705 140th Ave NE, Woodinville | 425-408-1604

Though Teddy’s is all about thick and juicy steak burgers, the Hawaii-born concept lets herbivores in on the teriyaki-soaked, toppings-filled fun. Pile your classic veggie burger high with a variety of cheeses, onion rings or hash browns, jalapenos, grilled onions, grilled pineapple, avocado, mushrooms, and much more. You name it... Teddy’s is there to help you build a bigger, better (veggie) burger.

Uneeda Burger | 4302 Fremont Ave N | 206-547-2600

Everyone’s favorite Fremont burger staple stacks some hearty combinations, and its core meatless menu item is no exception. The Crispy Emmer Veggie Burger features portobello mushrooms grilled to perfection, romaine lettuce, tomato, red onions, and a smattering of Uneeda’s must-try special sauce. Alternatively, the grilled cheese offers no-frills, melty comfort for those who wish to steer clear of the beef burgers.
