Farmers Market Grows from Monthly to Weekly! – Portland, OR

Rocky Butte Farmers Market increases frequency and size to bring more local food and artisan goods.

NE Portland non-profit Rocky Butte Farmers Market is expanding in 2022 to produce weekly farmers markets with even more vendors in their spacious location at the base of Rocky Butte. After a very successful summer of monthly markets in 2021, this growth supports their mission. Accordingly, their mission is to provide residents better access to affordable, seasonal, and locally grown foods and artisan products.

In 2022, Rocky Butte Farmers Market will take place every Saturday from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M., June 4th through September 24th, in the parking lot of Mannahouse Church, 9200 NE Fremont Street.

Rocky Butte Farmers Market increasing to weekly markets will allow for:

  • Vendors to plan for regular staffing and sales. Farmers will have certainty in a consistent outlet for produce, which is harvested continuously throughout the growing season.

  • Community members shop weekly, providing steady access to fresh, affordable food filling a need in this part of Portland.

  • Opportunities for businesses to thrive. Neighbors to connect. All to experience the joyful activity that the market brings each event.

In addition to popular returning vendors, they hope to attract new vendors that reflect their NE Portland community. Specifically those beginning and under-represented vendors. In order to continue keeping vendor fees affordable and providing vendors with resources for success.

The vendor application will be available beginning February 7th.

“Supporting the local economy is more important than ever,” says Hillary Barbour, volunteer Vendor Coordinator. “We have seen pandemic induced supply chain failures, as well as neighbors responding to job reduction and layoffs by becoming entrepreneurs in record numbers. Robust, successful markets that support human health, community connections, and agricultural resilience make a tremendous difference to people, farmers, food makers, and artisans.”

Rocky Butte Farmers Market is organized entirely by volunteers and funded by donations and sponsorships from local businesses and neighbors. The community members in the Madison South, Sumner, and Roseway neighborhoods get involved. Hence, to help make RBFM a success. Indeed, during this exciting time of growth. RBFM’s first major fundraiser of 2022 is a spring native plant sale in partnership with Sparrowhawk Native Plants.
