There’s something to be said for the creamy, savory dip that you simply can’t stop scooping by way of chip, cracker, or sometimes, vegetable stick. But there are some dips that are really, truly so good that you might have to stop yourself from spooning directly into your mouth! Here are the spots around Seattle with exceptional dips...
Agave Cocina & Tequilas | 100 Republican Street | 206-420-8195
With their contemporary approach to handmade Mexican food, Agave Cocina & Tequilas is the spot to dig into some pretty amazing guacamole. Theirs is fresh and homemade from scratch! If you’re feeling the heat, try adding roasted poblano & corn. Or for the sweet and spicy combination, add mango & habañero. Agave Cocina’s jalapeño cheese dip is also quite yummy, and although it’s certainly dip-worthy, it’s perhaps too rich and spicy for spooning.
Los Chilangos | 14008 NE 8th St, Bellevue | 425-221-7623
It’s salsa time! Los Chilangos makes some killer salsas to serve with buffet-style taco bar catering or from their food truck, and it’s so good you’ll have trouble resisting the temptation to hunt down a spoon. There are two kinds, and both are amazing: hot salsa (tomatillo with habañero) and mild salsa (tomatillo with chipotle). Look for a Taqueria Los Chilangos food truck at your local farmers markets, such as the Ballard market where the truck stops every Sunday, but you can also head to Bellevue on an off-market day.
Petra Mediterranean Bistro | 2501 4th Avenue | 206-728-5389
Lots of people love hummus, for dipping with everything from fresh vegetables to pita. But have you tried a hummus that you loved enough to enjoy all on its own? Your answer is likely ‘yes!’ if you’ve tried the Mezza Tray at Petra Mediterranean Bistro! It’s a large platter stuffed with items that dip deliciously with hummus, the main event: Baba Ghanouje, Labnie, olives, Falafel, Dolmathes, and warm pitas.
The Pike Pub | 1415 1st Avenue | 206-622-6044
Creamy, rich and absolutely wonderful, the Dungeness Crab & Artichoke Dip at The Pike Pub is a must try. It totally hits the spot in the wintertime when the weather’s bad, too! The dip is stuffed with real, fresh Dungeness crabmeat, artichoke hearts, onions and parmesan. Then it’s served hot with warm pita bread for dipping, but again, you may just want a spoon.
